Call For Entries | International Radio Playwriting Competition 2018 | BBC


Entries are invited from interested individuals who have attained 18 years and above and stay outside the United Kingdom (UK) for 2018 edition of the BBC International Radio Playwriting competition.

The 2018 edition is sponsored by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in conjunction with the British Council and co-produced by the Open University.

The winner would take away £2,200 sterling. In addition to a trip to London, he or she would also have his or her play broadcast to BBC’s 77 million audience across the world on British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Service.

Three categories of prizes would be won in the competition.

Prize category:
Two first prizes – for the best radio plays by writers with either English as their first language or English as their second language. Both winners’ plays will be broadcast on BBC World Service.

However, Georgi Markov prize will be given to the writer of the most promising script. This prize gives the winner a chance to go London for two weeks and work alongside BBC Radio Drama and with BBC World Service journalists.

Eligibility:
Entrant must be 18 years and above and living outside the United Kingdom (UK). It doesn’t matter whether he or she is an established writer, completely new or anywhere in between.

NOTE:
Interested entrants are advised to read all the Terms and Conditions before making their entries. Radio is a wonderful medium and potential audience on BBC World Service is huge – 77 million people around the world.

Think of a story you believe audience might like to hear and introduce them into a new world.  Tell your stories with imagination and passion. Find your voice and use your voice. BBC would love to hear from its audience.

Deadline:
The competition is open from 3rd October, 2017 to 31st January, 2018 to new and established writers, provided they live outside the United Kingdom (UK) and are 18 years and above.

Entry Rules
To enter, an entrant is required to send:
• A script of a 53 minute radio play with up to 6 central characters. However, entrant should keep a copy for himself or herself because the submitted copy will not be returned
• A synopsis which outlines his or her play in not more than 400 words

• An entrant should attach a completed entry form to his or her play and synopsis. On the other hand, an entrant can complete and submit his or her entry online by uploading his or her play and synopsis along with his or her personal details.
