Call For Applications | Creative Hubs Workshop | British Council West Africa Arts Programme


The West Africa Arts Programme of British Council invites applications from Creative Hubs (Centres) in Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone and United Kingdom to participate in a development programme for Creative Centres from the listed countries.

Creative hub in the context of this programme refers to any physical space that connects artists and/or creative entrepreneurs to each other and to skills, and capacity that strengthens their artistic practice or creative enterprise.

Creative Entrepreneurs on the other hand entails people running businesses in film, music, fashion, performing arts, visual arts, architecture, broadcasting, advertising, publishing, gaming or software.
This Programme aims to support these hubs to strengthen their sustainability through a programme of facilitator-led and peer-to-peer learning and networking for such hub managers or founders involved in day-to-day leadership or management of the hubs.

The programme will also support participating hubs to develop their business support, capacity building and advisory services to artists and creative entrepreneurs.

The expected result of this programme is a more vibrant network of stronger hubs across West Africa and the United Kingdom that stimulate increased capacity in creative ecosystems in the these hubs’ locations.

Programme Phases:                        
Hub Managers’/ Founders’ Workshop
Training of Trainers (Creative Enterprise and Digital Skills) that will support hubs’ training programmes
Grant Support to participating hubs to deliver training, networking and artistic showcasing programmes, create exciting new digital arts content and / or take part in exchange activity with other participating hubs.

Ongoing training for hub managers and founders, and trainers in various artistic West, technical, management and enterprise disciplines.

Criteria for participation:
To be selected to join the programme, hubs must have founders or managers that are aged 18 – 35 or have a demonstrable focus on supporting creative enterprises and / or artists that are aged 18 – 35.

Also, interested hub must have been operational for at least 6 months and have a physical space that brings artists and / or creative entrepreneurs together and offers them at least two of training, networking, advisory or business support (like incubation or acceleration).

Such hub must also be located in one of these cities in West Africa: Abuja, Accra, Calabar, Dakar, Enugu, Freetown, Kano, Kumasi, Lagos Port Harcourt or any location in the United Kingdom and must be available to attend a workshop in Abuja, Nigeria from 4th to 7th December, 2017 (Hub Managers or Founders involved in Day to Day management only).

The Workshop:
The workshop will be facilitated by Nesta based on the Nesta Creative Enterprise Toolkit and a Creative Hub Toolkit still in development.

Charges
Participation in the workshop is free. However, there are bursaries available to support participants from outside Abuja with flights, accommodation and breakfast and lunch each day.

How to Apply
Interested applicants are to fill in the form by 30th October, 2017. Selected Hubs will be notified on 6th November, 2017.
