News || 2017 AMAB-HBF Flash Fiction Winners Announced || The Arts-Muse Fair

Organizers have announced winners of the 2017 edition of the AMAB-HBF national flash fiction competition. Damilare Bello with his story Roughshod, is winner of the 1 st prize of N100,000 worth of books. Michael Larry’s Still Miracle wins the second place prize of N80,000 worth of books while Atanda Obatolu’s The Day You Lost Your Virginity is the 3 rd place winner of N70,000 worth of books. The overall winner’s entry, Roughshod, narrates in simple but intricate style about a victim of childhood emotional and sexual abuse, who grows up to find himself, once again, entangled in a web of matriarchal dominance and abuse. Still Miracle a story of grief and loss, where a witness at the birth projects the life her son would have lived. The strength of the story lies in its style, where flash forward is used to examine the cycle of life and death as a continuous one. Every year we showcase established and emerging talent from the African continent and its diaspora in what is now the UK’s biggest celebration of contemporary African writing taking place over an exciting summer weekend. News || 36th Annual Convention Of Nigerian Authors Begins Today || The Arts-Muse Fair

Writers in Nigeria head to Makurdi, Benue State today for the 36th Annual International Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA). The 3-day gathering will have Professor Sale Abdu Kwami of Gombe State University as keynote Speaker on the theme: Canons, Prizes and Boundaries: African Writers and African Writings in World Literature. According to the programme of events released by the ANA national body, events will start with arrival of delegates at Royal Choice Inn, Lobi Quarters, Makurdi on today. There will be a welcome Cocktail and Festival of Life celebration in the evening at IBB Square by 7:10pm. Denja Abdullahi, ANA President. The Invisible-Borders project team was in Minna, Niger state on tour of documenting interesting people and places in Minna. The team visited the the Hilltop Creative Arts Foundation and had a mentoring session with teenagers at the Foundation's Art Centre located at Hilltop school. Musa MC, a mentor at the Art Centre writes about the interaction between the teenagers of the Centre and the artists of the Invisible-Borders project team.    The Hilltop Creative Arts Foundation  Minna, on Sunday played host to a group of artists  from the Invisible-Borders project a non-governmental organization founded by Nigerian photographer Emeka Okereke. Poets in Nigeria (PIN) in collaboration with Festival Poetry Foundation (FPF) Calabar invites entries from Nigerian poets whose ages are between 12 and 30 years and also resident in Nigeria for the inaugural edition of Ken Egbas Prize for Festival Poetry. The prize is sponsored by Mr. Ken Egbas, a former Special Adviser, Strategic Planning, Cross River State as a contribution to the promotion of our cultural heritage, black pride and environmental consciousness. Order of the Prize Five hundred thousand naira ( ₦ 500,000) has been earmarked to run the award for consecutive five years. The Abuja Writers Forum (AWF) will this Saturday, October 28 host the Editor-in-Chief of the  Blueprint newspaper, Hajiya Zainab Suleiman Okino alongside Olumide Olaniyan and Sidney Okwoche at Aso Hall of Nanet Suites, Ekiti House, Abuja. A release signed by the Forum’s Public Relations Officer, Edith Yassin, said Hajiya Zainab Okino is expected to give a talk on the “challenge of newspaper publishing in Northern Nigeria, the social media and creating space for literature ” at the  October edition of the Guest Writers Forum . Mrs. Okino is a seasoned journalist, columnist and currently the Editor-in-Chief with the BluePrint Newspapers, Abuja. Olumide Olaniyan is a development specialist, an author, satirist, public speaker, and an award winning poet. Olaniyan is the author of the poetry book Lucidity of Absurdity , published in 2017. He was the winner of Mandela Day Poetry Competition in 2016. He also has several short stories to his credit. Sidney Okwoche
