Islamic Art Exhibition Opens In UK | The Arts-Muse Fair

The second edition of the Cambridge Islamic Art exhibition has opened in Cambridge, UK. Organised by the Cambridge Mosque Trust, the exhibition will run for two months starting from October 15 – December 15, 2017. All proceeds from sales of artworks go to the Cambridge Mosque Project. Yushaa Abdullah Nigerian Calligrapher Yushaa Abdullah is attending the exhibition and has already reported selling his first artwork for the princely sum of 2,000 British Pounds. The sold calligraphic piece entitled “On Dots Between Two Dots” is inspired by some of the beautiful names of God. The artwork is Black & red ink on hand made ahar paper with dimensions of 80 x 35 cm. 'On Dots Between Two Dots' calligraphy by Yushaa Abdullah sold for 2,000 pounds. The Kano Connect Centre of Poets in Nigeria (PIN) has released the shortlist of 14 for its maiden bilingual (Hausa and English) poetry competition. Maryam Gatawa, the Public Relations Officer of Kano PIN, in a statement explained that the poetry competition is in memory of the 14th Fulani Emir of Kano, Late Alhaji Dr. Ado Bayero, CFR, LLD, JP and in honour of the current Emir, His Highness Emir Muhammad Sanusi II in celebration of his 3rd anniversary on the throne. The following seven  poets are on the shortlist of the Hausa category. The Jury's Report Of The 2017 NLNG Literature Prize (Poetry) | The Arts-Muse Fair

A total of 184 poetry collections were received for this year’s competition. The seriousness with which the NLNG literary prize is received by the teeming population of writers in Nigeria is a sign that the expectations of writers swing beyond the prize itself to that of portraying their creativity. The prestige, associated with the prize saw the 184 entrants of collections of poetry in various sizes and of diverse themes setting out for the stiff competition. At the beginning, the initial weeding was carried out following one of the primary criteria; quality and validity of publication year.   A total of 101 collections were disqualified at the initial combined sitting of the Advisory Board and the panel of judges for not meeting the basic and fundamental guidelines. 83 closely screened entries were left in the competition and the judges were given a month to come up with the long list of 50 and 25 simultaneously. Entries are invited from interested individuals who have attained 18 years and above and stay outside the United Kingdom (UK) for 2018 edition of the BBC International Radio Playwriting competition. The 2018 edition is sponsored by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in conjunction with the British Council and co-produced by the Open University. The winner would take away £2,200 sterling. In addition to a trip to London, he or she would also have his or her play broadcast to BBC’s 77 million audience across the world on British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Service. Three categories of prizes would be won in the competition. 3 Igbo Women To Receive Award At The 9th Coal City Book Convention

In recognition of the role of women in the world of literature, three women who have distinguished themselves as achievers in the Eastern part of Nigeria are set to be crowned with the Olaudah Equiano Life Time Award at the upcoming 9 th annual Coal City Book convention in Enugu, the Enugu State capital. A statement by Dillibe Onyeama, organizer of the Coal City Book Convention, lists the awardees as Revered Dame Dorothy Obi, Mrs. Dame Veronica Mogboh, and Mrs. Dame Bridget Orjiekwe who have distinguished themselves as Librarian, Educationist and Administrator respectively. The convention which is scheduled to hold from 14th to 16th November, 2017 at Enugu's apex relaxation paradise, the Peekay Gardens,  has the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria (Enugu Campus), Professor Ifeoma Pamela Enemo as the keynote speaker on the theme: Women Empowerment: The Richness of the Female Character in Story-telling.
