Call for submissions | Sony World Photography Awards 2019

Entry is open for submissions of photographs for 2019 Sony World Photography Awards. The Sony World Photography Awards are organised annually by World Photography Organization and sponsored by Sony. The competition has four (4) categories. These are:

1.  Professional competition
2. Open competition
3. Youth competition - 4th January 2019
4. Student competition - 30th November 2018

General Qualification:

The competitions are open to photographers from all over the world and entry is free.

Specific Qualifications and Deadline for Entry Categories:

1. Professional competition:

Under this category, outstanding bodies of work would be recognized. All entrants for professional category must be over 18 years. However, there are ten (10) categories under professional competition namely: Architecture, Brief, Creative, Discovery, Documentary, Landscape, Natural World and Wildlife, Portraiture, Still Life, and Sport.

The deadline for submission of entries for professional competitions is January 11, 2019 (by 1300 GMT)

2. Open competition:

The competition is open to anyone. The world’s best single images ​would be rewarded. There are 10 categories: Architecture, Culture, Creative, Motion, Landscape, Natural World & Wildlife, Portraiture, Still Life, Street Photography, Travel.

The deadline for submission of entries in this category is  January 4, 2019 (by 1300 GMT)

3. Youth competition:

Entrants into the Youth competition must be aged between 12 and 19 years. Best single images by photographers aged 12-19 will be rewarded.

Deadline for submission of entries in this category is January 4, 2019 (by 1300 GMT)

4. Student competition:

The competition is open to all photography students worldwide. All entrants must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years. Also, to participate in the Student competition, entrant’s university needs to be registered.

Deadline for entries in this category is November 30, 2018 (by 1300 GMT)

Prizes to be won:

For Professional competition:

1. Photographer of the Year - $25,000 (USD) / Sony digital imaging equipment / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
2. Category winners - Flights & accommodation to awards ceremony in London / Sony digital imaging equipment / Publication in winners’ book / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
3. Finalists - Publication in winners’ book / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
4. Shortlist - Digital exhibition at Somerset House, London.

For Open competition:

1. Open Competition winner - $5,000 (USD) / Sony digital imaging equipment / Flights and accommodation to the awards ceremony in London / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
2. Category winners - Sony digital imaging equipment / Publication in winners’ book / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
3. Shortlist - Digital exhibition at Somerset House, London / Publication in winners’ book.

For Youth competition:

1. Youth competition winner - Flights and accommodation to awards in London / Sony digital imaging equipment / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
2. Shortlist - Digital exhibition at Somerset House, London / Publication in winners’ book.

For Student Focus:

All 10 shortlisted photographers will be given Sony digital imaging equipment and flown to London to attend the Sony World Photography Awards ceremony, with the winner receiving €30,000 worth of Sony photography equipment for his or her university.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Entrants should please note that he or she can only enter any one of the competitions: Professional, Open or Youth.
