Minna Book Club Hosts Open Mic This January

The Minna Book Club opens its activities for the year 2018 with an open mic. Scheduled for Saturday, January 13, the event will have discussions on books and literary events and contests. Nana Sule, Coordinator of the club, in statement said guests will get to read their literary works alongside scrabble game at the occasion which will hold at AMAB Bookshop, No.1, Himma school road, Minna, Niger state. The Minna Book Club was formed in 2016 by AMAB Books & Publishing.  It holds meetings for members regularly that are dominated by book readings, literary discussions and scrabble competitions. In December 2016, the club organised a food-donation to the Minna orphanage and a reading for the orphans where Khadijah Muhammad, author of My Life As An Almajiri, read to the children from her book.

In 2018, the Goethe-Institut Nigeria in the context of its partnership with the Center for Art and Urbanistics (ZK/U) in Berlin, the cultural office of local government Berlin Mitte, SAVVY Contemporary Art Space Berlin and the Arthouse Foundation in Lagos, continues with a residency programme for artists and curators from Berlin and Lagos. The Artist’s and Curator’s Residency Berlin-Lagos has been initiated to strengthen the dialogue between Germany and Nigeria. It provides an individualized offer in order to get an insight into the art and culture scene of the respective city and the partner institutions. They will offer possibilities of exchange, mentoring, making contacts and the presentation of work results. The first to participate in this project in 2015 was the artist and curator Folakunle Oshun from Lagos, Nigeria. A free entry contest for the promotion of art and poetry. In this first edition, there is no specific theme or topic for the entries. All you need to do is look at the given artwork and write your poem to give the artwork voice by making the drummer boy the speaker of the poem.  The Drummer Boy The best poem in the name of the author will be published on a canvassed print version of the artwork to promote the poet. This canvassed print version would be also available for sale in a frame for interior decor. Prizes First Prize is N5000 in addition to the artwork in a frame shielded with glass. Arts and Africa Relaunches Journal, Publish 2 New Books

Arts and Africa and 16 by 16 will tomorrow, 29 December 2019, present Ajinde (resurrection) event to  mark a huge milestone in Arts and Africa's journey to becoming one of the foremost publishers in Africa as it plans to reestablish Arts and Africa as a journal interested in chronicling experiences and telling stories, particularly from young people. Nupe Horsemen To Thrill Spectators At Calabar Carnival

A 30-Man horse crew from the Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar will participate in the 2017 Calabar Festival, which begins tomorrow Tuesday, December 26, in Calabar, Cross River state. Gabe Onah,  Chairman of the Carnival Commission while announcing this  said not less than 26 states will take part in the carnival reports  The Nation .  The carnival, touted at the biggest street carnival in Africa, will host about 2 million tourist from Nigeria and abroad.  The chairman noted that participants from states and local governments would display their rich cultural content and other unique aspects of their states and cultures. He observed that Cultures are dynamic, and efforts have been made over the years to develop art and craft and take them to the next level at Calabar carnivals. The theme of this year festival is tagged `Migration’.
