Call For Submissions | Ebedi Review Magazine | Ebedi Writers’ Residency

Editors of the Ebedi Review have called for submissions for its third edition of the magazine. The Ebedi International Writers Residency was established in 2010 by Dr. Wale Okediran as a retreat for African writers the world over searching for a serene and comfortable environment to research and work on their arts. Since inception, the residency has welcomed about 100 writers from Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Cameroon and South Africa. The residency accepts three to four writers for a six-week stay. And aside lodging, local transportation and reading materials, it also provides residents with weekly stipends, a housekeeper/cook and a residency manager. The Review is an in-house magazine of the Ebedi International Writers Residency, Iseyin Nigeria. It features articles on the residency and its environs from fellows of the Residency and also accepts and publishes short stories, photos and poems from writers across the world. Organizers of the inaugural edition of the Lagos Biennial have released the list of artists expected at the Biennial. After this maiden edition which holds from October 14 – November 22, 2017 , the Art festival will hold every two years in the city of Lagos with the primary aim of opening cultural, artistic, and political conversations from Lagos to the rest of the world. As part of efforts to enhance indigenous writing in Hausa Language, Makarantar Malam Bambadiya and Pleasant Library and Books , Katsina, are set to launch the maiden edition of an annual Hausa Short Story Writing Competition, mainly to focus on issues concerning the Hausa people and Nigeria as a whole. According to organizers, the competition is open to both male and female Hausa writers across the world. At the end of submissions, the best 3 writers will be handsomely rewarded, while 15 best written works will be compiled and published. Lights Dim For Kasimu Yero On The Stage Of Life

Veteran actor Alhaji Kasimu Yero has passed on. He died yesterday at the age of 70 years after a protracted illness at his residence in Kaduna, Northern Nigeria. The late seasoned actor had his primary education at Roman Catholic Mission School, Kaduna and his secondary school education at Alhudahuda College Zaria between 1962 and 1967 respectively. After his secondary school in 1966, he went on to Rumfa College in Kano and from there to Ahmadu Bello University , Zaria. He was admitted into Ahmadu Bello University , Zaria in 1970 to study fine arts but ended up studying for an Advanced Diploma in Public Administration at the Institute of Administration, Zaria, only to return to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences for his Masters Degree in Drama. After his graduation, late Yero got an appointment with the Kaduna state government as an Administration Officer. Following the recent civil unrest in the North and South West Regions of Cameroon, a call has been launched for submission of poems that explore and examine the Anglophone Problem in Cameroon. The project will include poets from both French- and English-speaking parts of the country, on a fifty-fifty basis. The poets should present their own reading of the Anglophone Problem today, or share their thoughts on being a Cameroonian citizen in the context of the country’s colonial experiences and what its people have gone through; from annexation to the First World War, independence, reunification of the former French and British Cameroons in 1961, and thereafter. The project is a call to look back at history, recognise the loopholes, celebrate the beauty of culture, and map out ways through which the people can use their multiculturalism and bilingualism as assets to conquer the world. Call For Participation| The Journey Series Children Book Project |Invisible Borders

Invisible Borders, a non-profit organization has called on the Nigerian Writers and illustrators to come forward for a joint service on the first children’s book project. The selected writers and illustrators will be paid for the work done. This according to the project managers is part of a journey to redefine the place of contemporary Africans in the world, and to foster understanding of African experiences and identities. The project is aimed at publishing books for children between the ages 7 and 12 years. It further stated that the books will reflect the histories and cultures of Africans, bringing to the lime light, the unknown and significant figures and stories in African. The series will be a presentation of fictionalized accounts of the lives and exploits of selected Africans, as well as stories of societies, civilizations and cultures within the context of Africa’s history. Besides that, the series will feature colourful and engaging illustrations, with chil
