AMAA announces 2018 Award nominations.

Yesterday evening, at the Wheatbaker Hotel, Lagos, the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) announced nominations for the 2018 AMAA awards. The nomination list was announced at the Nominations party by Mr. Shaibu Husseini on behalf of the president of the AMAA jury for 2018, Dorothee Wenner.     Mr. Shaibu Husseini announcing the nominations list This year, over 400 films were submitted by filmmakers for the award from which nominations were picked for the 27 categories of the award.  AMAA, founded by Peace Anyam-Osigwe in 2005 is an African Celebration of film and African Filmmakers. It has evolved from a one-day televised live, event, into a premier annual African film event The award aims to facilitate the development and the highlighting of the social relevance of African film and cinema. Kate Tales Foundation holds talk on mental health tomorrow.

Tomorrow afternoon, 4th August, 2018, performing poets and speakers will gather at the Q-Dance Centre, 13 Manuwa Street, Off Keffi Street, Ikoyi Lagos, for the 2018 edition of ‘Author’s Talk’. An initiative of the Kate Tales Foundation in collaboration with Q-Dance Centre, the event would feature Spoken word, Discussions, Open Mic and Dance. Themed “The Art of Sanity”, this year's Author's Talk is focused around mental health which organizers say they hope would encourage people to show their real moods without putting on a deceptive happy face by accepting that “the world isn't perfect” and “we're all broken lot, seeking healing”.  The panel of discussants, to be moderated by a Legal Practitioner, Social Justice Advocate,     Enwongo Christopher Cleopas, would comprise of Ekaete George, Uzoma Ihejirika, Edwina Amakievi Aleme, Joshua Omena, and Efe Paul Azino. Deadline for the Association of Nigerian Authors' (ANA) call for submissions for the 2018 ANA Review is today. The ANA Review, published yearly by the ANA, is a journal that seeks to assess the pulse of contemporary Nigerian and African literary writing and critical discourse in the field. All submissions for the 37th edition of ANA Review should be directed to the Association’s Editorial Board headed by the General Secretary. Submissions are expected in the following genres— 1]            Poetry—No more than six poems per submission. 2]            Prose—Short stories or fiction excerpts must be under 4,000 words. 3]            Essays—Academic and literary essays on subjects related to literature are welcome; must                   be under 5,000 words. 4]            Drama—Skits only, under 3,000 words. Adekunle Ajasin University partners with UNESCO to establish Music department

The Adekunle Ajasin University, with the support of the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), has commenced preparation for the establishment of a globally recognized Music department. The new department will focus on promoting and modernizing traditional music in the African continent. It would also expand the interest in several forms of the music and help spread them across the world. At a kick-off ceremony, the university, located in Akungba-Addo, Ondo State, Nigeria, hosted the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s honorary and goodwill ambassador, Ino Mirkovic. Between July 20 and 21, 2018, Northern Nigeria writers converged on the Command Guest House, Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, for the 2018 edition of the Northern Nigeria Writers Summit (NNWS). Maiduguri is one town most affected by the dreaded Boko Haram insurgency. Several lives have been lost and many people displaced. Yet, these dispiriting realities didn’t douse Northern Nigerian writers' desire to choose the town as a meeting point to discuss the development of literature in the region. One of the motivating factors for this choice was the ardent will of the   Borno State Governor, who is also the Chairman of the Northern Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Alhaji Kashim Shettima to support literature. Call for Submissions | Miles Morland Foundation Writing Scholarships

The Miles Morland Foundation  has opened submissions for  its 2018 Writing Scholarships.  The awards offer a fiction scholarship of £18,000 to two, three or four writers over the course of twelve months, and a nonfiction scholarship of £27,000 to a single writer over the course of eighteen months.  Entries must be book proposals for only fiction and creative nonfiction which must not be less than 80,000 words when completed. The only mandatory requirement during the period of the scholarship is the submission of 10,000 new words on a monthly basis, until the book is completed. ​ GUIDELINES 1. A submission of between 2,000 to 5,000 words as a Word document of work that has been published and offered for sale. 2. A description of between 400 – 1,000 words about the new book you intend to write.  3. A scan of an official document showing that you, or both of your parents, were born in Africa. 4. Delta Publications to release new book on race relations

  Professor Edith Ihekweazu’s historical book, ‘ Experience Abroad’ would be presented to Nigerian readers next month, Publishers of the book have said.
