News | Nigeria Photographer Wins 'Women Photograph' Mentor-ship | The Arts-Muse Fair

Women Photograph , an initiative that launched earlier this year to elevate the voices of female visual journalists across the world has released a list of twenty-two female photographers for its first class of mentees for 2017-2018. Amongst the selected mentees is Fati Abubakar, a Nigerian photographer famous for her photo documentary of the Boko Haram insurrection in Borno state. Under her ‘Bits of Borno’ series, Fati Abubakar has documented the effect of the crisis on the people of Borno state while also highlighting the resilience of the people in impacted by the conflict. The mentoring program will pair 22 industry leaders (11 photographers and 11 photo editors) with 22 early-career photojournalists over the course of a year. Mentors include editors from National Geographic, The New York Times, and The Guardian, and photographers who are the recipients of Pulitzer Prizes, Guggenheim Fellowships, and World Press Photo awards. Call For Participation | The Photo Community Photography Workshop

Photographer Fati Abubakar in a collaboration with Borno State Ministry of Home Affairs, Information and Culture and support of North East Regional Initiative present The Photo Community, a photographer's workshop in Maiduguri for young people who have shown interest in photography.                       The 10-day intensive course will take place in Maiduguri with carefully selected participants to help create narratives of what young people of Maiduguri want their hometown to be represented as. Interested media professionals, photographers, and writers wishing to participate should send email to fatigangaran86@gmail.com Organisers would also like to be supported with donations of DSLRs, which would be tremendously helpful to the workshop participants.
