Call for submissions | Afroyoungadult short stories

Afroyoungadult, published by the  Goethe-Institut , will feature Young Adults (YA) stories. The Goethe-Institut invites aspiring African writers to submit short stories, 3,000 to 5,000 words in length, in Kiswahili, English or French. Selected authors will be published in an anthology and will participate in workshops in February 2019. The anthology that will be available in Kiswahili, English, and French, and launched at the 2019 Ake Festival. Call for submissions | 2018 African Writers Award

Submissions are invited from writers in Africa for the 2018 African Writers Award. The African Writers Development Trust (AWDT) annually organizes African Writers Award as part of the African Writers Conference (AWC). The conference annually brings writers of African descent together to network, create opportunities and sustain a conversation that would press forward the shared interests of African writers. The theme of this year’s conference, slated to hold in Abuja later this year, is “Re-imagining African Literature: New Voices, New Narratives in the Fight for the Girl Child”. Therefore, writers can send in their flash fiction, short stories, children stories, or poems. The maximum length words: The maximum length words for submissions is: Maximum of three hundred (300) words   for flash fiction. KABAFEST 2018 opens tomorrow

Writers, publishers and book lovers will gather in Kaduna from tomorrow for the second edition of the  Kaduna Book and Arts Festival (KABAFEST) scheduled to end on 8th September, 2018.   The Kaduna Book and Arts Festival (KABAFEST) is a four-day Book and Arts focused festival which features booklogues, panel discussions, poetry performance and readings, stage play, Art fair, film screenings, and workshops. OkadaBooks, Union Bank Launch Campus Writing Challenge

OkadaBooks, Nigeria's top e-publishing platform, has announced the call for entries to the maiden edition of the Campus Writing Challenge. The initiative is sponsored by Union Bank, one of Nigeria’s long standing financial institutions.  The Campus Writing Challenge, which focuses on discovering students with raw, bold and creative writing talents, is open to students of tertiary institutions across Nigeria. It is aimed at providing the students with the exposure needed for them to hone their crafts and become master storytellers.  Entries for the Challenge which opened on Monday, August 27 ends on Sunday, October 7, 2018. Interested student as are to submit short stories of between 3,000 and 5,000 words through this link . The best entrant will receive a cash prize of N500,000 while the second and third best entrants will receive N200,000 and N100,000 respectively. Call for entries | Quramo Junior Writers’ Prize 2018

Quramo’s Junior Writers’ Prize is a writing competition for secondary school students under the age of 17. The competition aims to inspire and encourage young writers to develop their storytelling abilities and hone their writing craft.  Quramo Publishing is accepting submissions till September 15th 2018. The topic for this year’s competition is “The World in 2030.” Students can submit either fiction or non-fiction entries about this topic. The maximum word count is 3000 words.  Entries can be submitted via email ( writersprize@quramo.com ) or here . The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners will each receive a cash prize. A long-list of the top five entries will also be included in an anthology of short stories published under Mango (children) imprint. Call for applications | RAW Residency 2019

Photo: Aminu S Muhammad RAW Material Company’s residency programme started in 2011 and has welcomed more than 40 artists, writers, researchers, curators, etc. from various nationalities, in Dakar. The residency programme is open to visual artists interested in any medium, from writers, musicians, filmmakers and architects to curators, researchers or student researchers.  The RAW Material Company residency is located in the Baobabs neighbourhood and has the capacity to welcome two artists in residence. The space is a 15 minute walk from RAW's headquarters and is 20 minutes by car from Dakar's downtown.  Applications will be open from 9th July to 9th September 2018 for a residency that will take place either in January/February or June/July 2019. Two residents will be selected for each period. The exact duration of the residency will be decided through discussions with the team of RAW Material Company.
