Call for Submissions ~ The Caine Prize for African Writing

The Caine Prize for African Writing is open for submissions for 2020. The deadline to enter is the 31 st January 2020. The prize is awarded to an African writer of a short story in English. To enter please send six original published copies of the work for consideration to the Caine Prize office including a publisher’s letter detailing your author's qualifying nationality, word count, as well as the title of the story, year of publication and title of publication. The Award                                                   There is a cash prize of £10, 000 for the winning author and a travel award for each of the shortlisted candidates (up to five in all); the shortlisted candidates will also receive a prize of £500. Ake Review 2017: Call For Submissions

The Ake Arts and Book Festival is calling for submissions to the 2017 edition of the annual journal, Ake Review. This 5th Edition is themed This F-Word and will focus on the challenges, journeys and triumphs of African women, while exploring a range of feminist perspectives. Rules for Submission Poetry – Up to 4 Poems Fiction – No more than 2,500 words Non-Fiction – No more than 2,000 words Artwork – Up to 2 high-res jpeg works A bio of no longer than 70 words General Guidelines     All entries must be submitted via email to  editor@akefestival.org  as attachments with 'AR Submission' in the subject line. Call For Submissions: Aliyu Mohammed Book Prize For Hausa Manuscript

BACKGROUND The Aliyu Mohammed Book Prize is an annual award, open to new works of fiction or non-fiction written in Hausa. The prize is the Gusau Institute (GI)’s contribution to the encouragement of writing in Hausa, the most populous Chadic language and the major language of West Africa. It is both the first language and/or the lingua franca of millions in the region, and the award is meant to celebrate the cultural richness Hausa lends to several populations across state borders. This new competition for unpublished Hausa manuscripts offers editing, design and layout assistance for the winning entry, as well as an official introduction at the first Kaduna Book and Arts Festival (Kabafest), following the announcement of the winning manuscript. The prize will alternate between fiction (in even years) and non-fiction (in uneven years).
